Which is in Control… You or Your Work Schedule?

We have said Goodbye to 2021 & Hello to 2022… Hope you are having an AMAZING transition!!!

Today’s newsletter gives you some ways to “Take Control of Your Own Schedule” and balance the impulses of your business and your life! I was having a conversation the other day with fellow business owners about how we run full-time businesses, have families and we still manage to keep our sanity through it all. It is not easy… which led the conversation into how we manage our client interactions so, that it ALL works out.

Here are a few tricks I’d like to share:

1. Set Your Own Hours

Just because a client emails me in the evening or on the weekend, contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t mean that I’m required to answer them immediately. I get to set my working hours. I also don’t get angry when a client emails me during these times, this only means that THEY are working, and I am truly grateful that I will have work in my queue on Monday morning.

*You must set hours that work for your life, family and business.

2. Manage Expectations

When I start working with a new client, I set expectations at the beginning. I let them know that I’m usually at my desk between 9:30am and 4:30pm. I answer emails within 24 hours. I am consistently checking my email for requests, updates and questions, but a text is best for emergencies, quick requests and responses. I understand there are certain situations when it is important to start early and work late, I do not want it to be a way of life so, these projects must be discussed up front.

*Set clear and concise expectations for you and your clients.

3. Use Technology

When I want to work in the evening or on the weekend, I use an email delivery tool that allows me to schedule when my emails will be sent. I find this very effective because I can “stay under the radar” during evenings and weekends, but still be productive. It’s great to be able to respond on my schedule, while making sure my clients are receiving my emails at a time that I choose by using the email scheduling function.

*Available with email accounts like Gmail.

The Result is Simple:

My clients know what to expect and I have plenty of time to spend time with my family and friends! Take that time… plan and enjoy your time away from work.

*Make memories with the ones you hold dearest to your heart and provide you support when you need it most.

Take Control … Don’t let your schedule “Manage” you.
